The MRI (Mixed Reality Interface) / the simplest way to operate a computer.

The MRI will change the way you work.

The MRI is a tool to touch, understand and actively co-design. If you see and touch things, you understand better how they are connected.

"Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, let me do it and I understand". (Confucius, Chinese philosopher, 551 - 479 BC)

MRI Mixed Reality Interface

The MRI pursues a completely new approach as a computer input device: Computer programs are controlled by real, tangible objects.

Professionals and non-users, who are not familiar with computers, are immediately able to use this tool on their own, thus creating immediate and playful access to your products or projects.

The MRI has the potential to revolutionize the experience of virtual 3D worlds.

How it works

The user moves a control object through a model. The user determines the view in the computer application by positioning and rotating the control object. The design and form of the control object is arbitrary and is not bound to any technical requirement: for example, it can be a play figure. Different functions can be assigned to the control object.

What is the MRI?
A simple to use input device (interface) for controlling of and navigating in digital contents (software applications).

What does MRI stand for?
Mixed Reality Interface is a combination of digital content with real objects.

Why is  the MRI innovative?
What makes the MRI innovative is that everyday objects can be used. An adhesive label is stuck to the bottom of the desired object and it can thus be used for operating a computer.

How can I integrate the MRI into my computer system or graphic computer?
The MRI is connected via a network cable connection. The MRI Adjust software turns configuration into child’s play.

What software can be used with the MRI?
Any software can be used with the included mouse emulation driver. Furthermore, the following interfaces are available: MRI API (included in the basic set), Windows: Static Library for Visual Studio.net, Linux: Static ELF Library, MRI Native Protocol Documentation, Optional: OSC (OpenSoundControl) software adaptor for Windows and Linux, connections for the Quest 3D and 3D GameStudio visualization systems, and VRML files can be operated directly via an integrated viewer application. Connections to other applications are constantly being developed. For more information on interfaces, please see the accessories section in the MRI folder!

Is the system susceptible to external conditions?
The MRI is not susceptible to temperature and humidity within a normal working environment (office environment). The MRI is not susceptible to magnetic fields. Hotspots: very bright spotlights (like floodlights) above the navigation surface can lead to malfunctions. Normal office lamps (fluorescent lamps) do not pose any problems. Do not expose the system to direct sunlight.

Can free form surfaces be ordered as the navigation surface?
Round, rectangular and other shapes are available.

We would like an individual design for our equipment.
The MRI is conceived in such a way that individual designs are possible. No problem. KOMMERZ develops solutions and designs that satisfy the requirements of your applications.

We would like an installation that can be accessed by a group of people.
The MRI is multiuser and network compatible, which means that many users, even at different locations, can work in one and the same scene at the same time.

The MRI is a particularly easy to operate input device for computer applications.
You control software programs of your choice, such as real-time 3D applications, acoustic simulations, planning software, presentation software, multimedia and many more.
